IWACU RECOVERY CENTRE, HIGH COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN SIGN PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT.

Kigali, May 19, 2025– IWACU RECOVERY CENTRE (IRC) and THE HIGH COMMISSION OF PAKISTAN have signed a partnership agreement aimed at fostering collaboration in areas such as trade, sports, culture, psychosocial support, public health education, and community recovery initiatives.

The IWACU RECOVERY CENTRE is a counseling and treatment facility focused on alcohol and drug abuse among individuals struggling with addiction and related mental, psychological, and health issues. Furthermore, IRC supports both young and adult individuals who are transitioning from rehabilitation centers, guiding them on their path to recovery. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Rev. Dr. Jean Claude MUREKEYIMANA, Managing Director of IWACU RECOVERY CENTRE, and Pervaiz Isbul Bhatti Deputy High Commissioner Kigali-Rwanda.

The purpose of the cooperation between IRC and the Pakistan Embassy is to establish a framework for supporting mental health and addiction recovery efforts in Rwanda. It aims to facilitate joint community outreach programs, promote capacity building and skills development through workshops and training. The partnership will also encourage cultural exchange and goodwill through humanitarian initiatives, and promote trade, sports, and cultural ties between the two countries. Both parties have agreed to collaborate in different areas. They include psychoeducation and awareness campaigns on substance abuse and trauma recovery, joint development and dissemination of informational materials, provision of technical or financial support for community-based projects, exchange of expertise, training, and capacity-building activities, promotion of trade, sports, and cultural initiatives.

The decision by the Embassy of Pakistan to sponsor specific activities will be made after discussions regarding the budget, financial requirements, and responsibilities for each individual initiative. The Embassy will also consider providing advisory and logistical support to selected initiatives, facilitating access to relevant networks and institutions, and exploring opportunities for training or funding support, when available. IWACU RECOVERY CENTRE will implement the agreed-upon recovery programs and services, provide facilities and staff for program delivery, and report regularly on the outcomes and impact of collaborative efforts.
