Shoes donation to children

In a recent community outreach effort, IWACU RECOVERY CENTRE, coordinated a successful shoe donation activity targeting vulnerable children from the parents affected by drug addiction. Vulnerable children receive daily care from “Hope for Recovery Christian School”, located in Nyamata Sector, Bugesera District, Eastern Rwanda. Out of 287 children currently enrolled (aged 3–15), a total of 70 received shoes. Among them, 50 are children from families actively involved in IWACU RECOVERY CENTRE programs, while the remaining 20 are from similarly vulnerable backgrounds.

The IWACU RECOVERY CENTRE exists to restore hope and dignity to individuals and families affected by addiction through recovery programs, education, and social support. Our associated school “Hope for Recovery Christian School”, provides access to quality education for children from families facing severe social and economic hardships. .

Children were attending school barefoot or with damaged footwear, exposing them to injury, illness, and stigmatization.

In light of the challenges faced, future interventions will adopt proactive planning policies that emphasize early resource mobilization, detailed data collection on beneficiaries’ needs (such as shoe sizes), and coordination with suppliers well in advance. These measures aim to ensure that support reaches a larger number of children with improved logistical efficiency.

This donation has positively impacted children’s dignity and educational participation. The IWACU RECOVERY CENTRE aims to extend support to more children in future phases by: Expanding partnerships and fundraising efforts, Documenting needs for additional school supplies and uniforms, Enhancing community engagement for long-term impact.
